Supermarine Spitfire PS915 was built at Southampton, delivered to 6 MU on April 17th 1945 and on to RAF Benson on April 26th.

On the 21st June 1945 PS915 went to 541 Squadron, No 1 Pilots' Pool at Benson before moving to Photo Reconnaissance Unit at same base on July 22nd 1946.

Sent to 151 Repair Unit on October 10th PS915 then joined 2 Squadron at Wunsdorf, Germany on July 8th 1948 flying ‘Cold War’ strategic reconnaissance sorties.

Following an accident, she was repaired and then issued to the Temperature and Humidity Monitoring (THUM) Flight at Woodvale on the 4th of June 1954 serving there until retired.

PS915 was flown to join Historic Aircraft Flight (Later the BBMF) at Biggin on June 13th 1957.

Grounded and mistakenly allotted 7548M (see PS853) then 7711M; became gate guardian at West Malling, and then Leuchars.

After static use in 'The Battle of Britain' film in 1968 she became RAF Brawdy's gate guardian, undergoing Griffon installation trials with the BBMF during this period.

Restored to flying condition with a Shackleton engine by BAe Warton in 1986, it had its first flight on 16th December 1986.

PS915 was delivered to the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (BBMF) on March 24th 1987.

PS915 currently wears the colour scheme and markings of PS888, a PRXIX of 81 Squadron.

Battle of Britain Memorial Flight
The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight or BBMF presently consist of twelve aircraft :-
  6 Spitfires, (including PS915)
  2 Hurricanes,
  Lancaster,
  Dakota,
  2 Chipmunks.

They are operated by the Royal Air Force and have been based at RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire since 1976.

The BBMF participate in scores of Air Displays and events every year.
